Problem

Define

The premise of this project is to adopt a stakeholder-centric approach that addresses the needs of various user groups, enabling them to engage more deeply with Netflix and enhance their overall experience. In this section, we will explore what are some of stakeholder’s needs and frustrations.

Approach

The overarching design goals for the Netflix + project were strategically aligned with the vision to revolutionize Netflix, transforming it into a collaborative hub for content co-creation. Each goal was crafted to bring about a paradigm shift, emphasizing intelligent automation, an immersive environment, and seamless integration of user-generated content. The specific objectives were as follows:

Smartphone Incorporation

Incorporating smartphones more heavily into its platform could allow Netflix to boost user social connectivity, interaction and enhance its ability to maintain a larger library of original content.

Leverage AI Capabilities

By utilizing AI-powered video creation tools, Netflix can streamline the video production process for its user, therefore, enabling the creation of original content and increasing of social connectivity on the platform.

Through the built in AI engine, users can create movies or any other video media form using a set of available templates. Upon completion, the user can publish the completed video on the Net Plus platform for the wider audience to view.
Main page of My Netflix +

On the Main page of the application appears the holistic content library compiling all the available short movies and series created by the user base. Note that this view is further categorized based on a set of parameters, such as top 10 videos of the week, subscribed artists, top views etc.

Once a video is selected, the user can interact with the user interface in various ways; including, play the video, provide rating, review, subscribe to the publishing user’s profile and save the video to watch later etc. Additional features in place to increase engagement and interaction with the platform include the ability to review all the existing templates used for the selected video and the ability to further share the video with other users/friends.
Users can also choose to use the Direct Messaging features to communicate with the publishing users privately.

Create New

To create a video, the user can select from a list of available templates on the platform or choose to create a personalized, customized template from scratch.

  1. Each template has a quick view option along with categorization to assist the user in selecting the best possible option for their idea.

  2. The platform will provide the user with a list of top movies at that given moment and also have the selected template included.

  3. Options to save the template and share are available throughout the entire platform’s interaction process.
  1. Each template is just the beginning – the AI tool will guide you to bring your vision to life, prompting you to add unique details like themes, characters, and plot twists, making it truly your own.

  2. With an AI-generated character as your canvas, you’re in full control. Transform them however you like – change their look, age, gender, and more, crafting a character that fits your story perfectly.

  3. From your ideas, the AI will craft a cinematic experience, generating a full movie. You can dive in to add your own script, tweak scenes, and shape the narrative to match your creative vision.

These videos will be available on the Netflix plus feature of the application and can be viewed through all devices supported by the regular Netflix app.

Reflection

This project redefined the boundaries of user interaction with digital entertainment, shifting from passive consumption to active content creation. By integrating AI into the Netflix platform, we envisioned a space where users not only consume media but also shape it, co-creating unique stories that reflect their imagination. With smart design and a push for user-generated content, we aimed to transform the streaming world, encouraging creativity and stronger connections within the Netflix community.
